Jan Mulder is a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for the Dutch liberal party "VVD" and the European Liberal Democrat and Reform Party (ELDR). Since January 2007 he was elected as one of the six Quaestors of the European Parliament. His special areas of interest in parliament are:

A liberal with special interest in agriculture



Jan Mulder has been a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for the Dutch liberal party "VVD" since 1994 and is a member of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) in Parliament. He was vice-chairman of the Parliament Budget Committee and spokesman for ALDE on the Budget Control Committee. Furthermore he is parliament rapporteur for the 2004 EU budget and a subsitute member of the Committee for Agriculture and Rural Development and the Committee on Fisheries.

He was born on 3 October 1943 in Diever, in the province of Drenthe, the Netherlands, where he still lives. Jan Mulder graduated as an agricultural engineer from Wageningen University and has subsequently worked as an agricultural specialist in developing countries for the FAO, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European Commission. He lived in Kenya from 1970 to 1975. Since 1999 Jan Mulder has been chairman of LUFPIG, the Land Use & Food Policy InterGroup in the European Parliament.
